The House of the Dutch Provinces (HNP) and the Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross border cooperation and Mobility (ITEM) organised a high-level side event (Sustainable cross-border infrastructure and mobility in North-West Europe’s Delta corridor) during the ‘Week of the Regions’ on 27 September, 2023. The main message of the event: the future of sustainable infrastructure has started; we need a strategic vision. During the event, the video of STISE was presented as an inspiration on how shared measures could increase sustainability in the Eurodelta. This was supported in a video message by Melanie van der Horst, the Deputy Mayor of Amsterdam on mobility and public space, where she endorses the outcome of the research and called for action for “more, better and wider infrastructure network, better rules for fair pricing for air and train, and a better ticketing system. Everybody wants it now – we need more cooperation to do this together”.
17 November, 2023, the ITEM Annual conference will take place in The Hague, focusing on the theme of infrastructure and mobility: strong connections with neighbouring countries towards a sustainable and liveable society across the border, in collaboration with the Province of South Holland. The outcomes of the side event of 27 September will be discussed during the annual conference. The SURE Network is proud that our research is still influencing political agendas of Europe, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Benelux Union.
